This article describes how to configure SNMP on Open Mesh Switches.

Environment

Description

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a network protocol used in monitoring and managing network devices. Devices use this protocol to send messages containing device information and critical notifications.

A Network Management System (NMS) that supports SNMP messages is required to use SNMP.

Procedure

Navigation

1. Navigate to Manage ? Switches and select a switch.

2. Click Switch Settings.

3. Click the SNMP dropdown to reveal settings, then click the Enable checkbox to interact with them.

4. Click Save Switch Settings when you are finished modifying settings.

Configuration

The following settings are available for SNMP:

  • Version: This setting lets you choose between SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c.
  • Poll Community: This lets you input the Poll Community String if required by the NMS.
  • Notify Type: This setting lets you choose the type of message sent out. Informs are only supported on SNMPv2c.
  • Trap Destination: This setting allows you to specify the trap message's IP address.
  • Trap Community: This setting lets you input the Trap Community String if required by the NMS.
  • UDP: This setting lets you specify the UDP port used in communicating to the NMS.
  • Retry (SNMPv2c Only): Use this setting to define the number of times the switch will retry the notification delivery after timing out.
  • Timeout (SNMPv2c Only): Use this setting to define the amount of time (in seconds) the switch will wait for a confirmation of notification delivery before timing out.
