Understanding the Datto Networking RMM integration

The Datto Networking Integration enables you to join Datto RMM sites with Datto Networking networks, offering many benefits to make the support process more integrated and efficient. Some highlights include the following:

  • Once the configuration is complete and a Datto RMM site is mapped to a Datto Networking network, all supported Datto Networking devices (access points, switches, and managed power devices) stay in sync automatically with your Datto RMM site as long as that mapping is active.

  • Support technicians will not need to switch between different user interfaces; you can manage Datto Networking devices the same way as any other device in Datto RMM.

  • Support technicians can resolve client networking issues faster by remotely resetting Datto Networking devices.

  • Datto Networking devices will automatically sync to PSA systems, which will make it easier to automate the billing process.

  • For endpoints connected to Datto APs, switches, or D200 edge routers that are managed by Datto RMM, users can view additional identification details about the endpoint sourced directly from RMM within Network Manager and launch the RMM device dashboard in a new browser tab.   • When both Datto RMM and Secure Edge are deployed, you can enable SafeCheck to perform an endpoint security compliance check via Datto RMM when the endpoint attempts to gain access to corporate resources via the Secure Edge softclient. This article explains how to set up the integration in Datto Network Manager. For details about how to configure your RMM instance to support the integration, refer to RMM Online Help: Datto Networking Integration.

Before you begin

To complete this process, you'll need administrative access to both Datto Network Manager and Datto RMM.

Procedure

Before you can configure the integration in Network Manager, you'll need to enable the integration in Datto RMM.

  1. Perform the following sections of RMM Online Help: Datto Networking Integration:

    • Obtain REST API keys from Datto Partner Portal
    • Enable the Datto Networking Integration

  2. Enable API access on the Setup > Global Settings page in RMM.

  3. Navigate to the Setup > Users page.

  4. Select a user and under the API section, click Generate API Keys.

  5. Make note of the following items:

    • Your Datto RMM API URL
    • Your Datto RMM API key and API secret
    • Your Datto RMM account email

Once you've enabled the integration in Datto RMM and captured this information, proceed to the next section of this article.

Activate the integration in Datto Network Manager.

Connect to RMM

  1. Navigate to portal.dattobackup.com

  2. Log in with your Partner Portal credentials.

  3. From the header menu, select Status > Networking Status.

  1. Select the name of a Network or Launch Network Manager, to load the Networking Manager.

  1. Navigate to Configure > RMM Integration.

  1. On the Integration Status tab, complete the following fields:

    • API URL: Input your Datto RMM API URL. This value appears in your RMM instance on the User Details page.
    • Datto RMM Account Email: Enter your Datto RMM account email.
    • API Key: Provide your Datto RMM API key.
    • API Secret: Enter your Datto RMM API Secret.

  2. Click Save Changes.

  3. Once the authorization process completes, the Integration Status tab will load, showing a Connected indicator. The Datto RMM Account field will list the username of the authenticated RMM user.

Once you've configured the integrations in both RMM and Network Manager, you can verify that the platforms are communicating via the following methods:

In Datto Network Manager: Navigate to Configure > RMM Integration. The Integration Status field should display a value of Connected.

In Datto RMM: Navigate to Setup > Integrations > Datto Networking. The Datto Networking Networks section will display a table populated with networks available to map to sites in Datto RMM.
